Where Science Meets Symphony: National Youth Orchestra of Scotland at Dynamic Earth!
This summer brought a truly cosmic treat to the Edinburgh Science Centre and Planetarium. The National Youth Orchestra of Scotland (NYOS) brought live orchestral music to one of the capital’s most spectacular settings. With two free pop-up performances held at Dynamic Earth on Saturday 11 July, these performances brought science and musical education to life in a truly unique way.
Nearly 100 young musicians from across Scotland performed iconic movements from Gustav Holst’s instantly recognisable orchestral suite, The Planets: combining the awe-inspiring power of the music with the extraordinary skill, passion and joy of Scotland’s brightest young musical talent.
Perhaps best of all, these performances were completely free! The summer programme from NYOS also includes a matinee at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on Sunday 12 July at 3pm.

With Holst’s galactic masterwork as the soundtrack, science and sound collided in the most spectacular way – this one was truly out of this world!
