As part of your visit to Dynamic Earth this summer, make sure to check out our free family friendly activities on our Stratosphere, which you’ll find under our spectacular Gaia installation.
Available daily between 10am – 4pm, no need to book, just drop-in as part of your visit and our friendly team will be ready to welcome you!
Take part in fun hands-on experiences exploring how satellites help us monitor and understand our home, planet Earth. Here’s an Earth shot of some of the activities to be enjoyed:
Satellite crafts: Make and take home your own satellite models.
GPS tracking: How quick are your reactions to ‘tag’ marine animals including sharks, turtles and whales?
Penguin poo from space: Explore satellite images of Antarctica and from observations of poo, determine which locations have penguin colonies!
Satellite imagery interactives: Explore satellite imagery from the NASA Earth Observatory at iPad Stations.
Tiger and elephant tracking: Read a story of a tiger whose travels were documented through GPS tracking. Match up the route using stamps on a TigerTracks postcard.
Satellites through the ages: Tracing activities, with light boxes of satellites past, present and future. Take home your creation.
Tiger and elephant tracking: Read a story of a tiger whose travels were documented through GPS tracking. Match up their route using stamps on a TigerTracks postcard.
Infra-red camera station: Explore beyond the visible with infra-red camera interactives on a big screen.
Edinburgh from above: Spot Edinburgh landmarks from satellite imagery on a floor mat.
Dynamic Earth is one of 22 organisations taking part in Our World From Space – a new national science engagement programme – led by the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres, funded by the UK Space Agency and Natural Environment Research Council.
