GAIA: ART INSTALLATION
Suspended above your head on the East side of the Dynamic Earth building, you’ll find ‘Gaia’: a 7 metre wide inflatable art installation of the Earth.
Created by British artist Luke Jerram and featuring 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface, Gaia provides the opportunity to see our planet at a large scale, floating in three-dimensions. The artwork is 1.8 million times smaller than the real Earth with each centimetre equal to 18 kilometres of the Earth’s surface.
Gaia has the power to create a sense of the ‘Overview Effect’ – a phenomenon reported by astronauts as they see the Earth for the first time in its entirety, floating in the incomprehensible vastness of space. They report feeling awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life and a renewed sense of responsibility to take care of it.
Take a moment to visit Gaia during your journey at Dynamic Earth, and remember to snap a picture with our home planet!
This installation is free to visit, and located on the Stratosphere (Level 3).Â
