DYNAMIC EARTH AWARDED GRANT AS PART OF MINDSETS + MISSIONS

Published On: 1st October, 2023

Dynamic Earth are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant as part of the Mindsets + Missions programme to undertake work exploring future citizenship and the role of museums and science and discovery centres in engaging underrepresented groups with research and innovation.

Across the next 12 months, Dynamic Earth will be embarking on a dedicated programme of work to reimagine our centre through the lens of community empowerment. Our Community Learning and Engagement team will lead and deliver a programme of research with our audiences to generate a step-change in how we represent unheard voices and plural perspectives throughout Dynamic Earth’s permanent exhibition and programming, placing authentic co-creation and active participation are at the heart of our programming.

Our programme of work will bring to light stories and perspectives that are untold in our exhibition and programmes. Where we have presented science, culture and history with one lens, we are increasingly aware of the different stories that have remained hidden; which we are committed to exploring with our diverse audiences. As part of our programme, community groups will benefit from an in-depth and multiple touch point engagement model throughout Mindsets + Missions – including opportunities to connect with experts and specialists in the field of climate justice.

In May 2023, Dynamic Earth launched a new strategic plan – From Beginning to Mend – with a new charitable mission: ‘To empower people with understanding and empathy for the Earth’. In the face of a climate and ecological crisis, we are realigning our storytelling to help people make sense of the Earth’s future and how we can all drive positive action to protect our planet. Our programme of work as part of Mindsets + Missions will help us realize the full potential in our charitable mission, ensuring that plural perspectives and diverse voices help shape a science centre for the future.

Conor Ellis, Head of Learning and Engagement at Dynamic Earth said – “We are delighted to have been awarded this grant to evolve our community programming and deepen our approaches to co-creating content and experiences with partners. At a time of planetary crisis, there has never been a more pressing need to ensure everyone is empowered with understanding and empathy for the Earth. Through Mindsets + Missions, we’re committed to championing unheard voices, untold stories and plural perspectives across our programming and we can’t wait to get started!”
